Care & Wash Instructions

At Legend Jackets Co, we craft our jackets to last a lifetime. Whether you own a premium leather piece, a classic wool coat, or a sleek satin replica, proper care is essential to preserving the fabric’s integrity and appearance. Follow these specialized instructions to keep your jacket in legendary condition.

1. Genuine & Cowhide Leather Care

Leather is a natural material that breathes and ages beautifully if maintained.

  • Monthly Maintenance: Apply a high-quality leather lotion every 1–2 months to keep the hide supple and prevent cracking. Use small, circular motions with a soft cloth.

  • Wet Leather: If caught in the rain, always let your leather dry naturally at room temperature. Never place it near a heater or use a hairdryer, as extreme heat will make the leather brittle.

  • Perfumes & Sprays: Avoid spraying perfumes or colognes directly onto the leather, as the alcohol and chemicals can cause staining or drying.

  • Professional Care: For deep cleaning, we recommend visiting a professional leather specialist every 1–2 years.

2. Wool & Letterman Jackets

  • Brushing: Use a soft suede or lint brush after each wear to remove surface dust and prevent soil from settling into the fibers.

  • Spills: Blot spills immediately with an absorbent cloth. Do not rub, as this pushes the liquid deeper into the wool.

  • Leather Sleeves (Letterman Style): Clean the leather sections with a damp sponge and apply leather lotion to the trim only. For the inner lining, a moist baby wipe is an effective way to stay fresh between professional cleanings.

  • Ironing: Wool should rarely be ironed. If necessary, use a cool setting and always place a protective sheet or pillowcase between the iron and the jacket.

3. Faux Leather & Synthetic Blends

  • Cleaning: Mix warm water with a drop of mild soap. Use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean the sleeves or body.

  • Drying: Wipe away soap residue with a damp cloth and buff dry with a clean, lint-free towel.

4. Satin & Performance Fabrics

  • Washing: Most satin jackets can be machine-washed on a permanent press cycle with warm water.

  • Drying: Air dry on a clothesline or tumble dry on the lowest heat setting. Remove promptly to prevent deep creases.

  • Ironing: If the jacket is wrinkled, use a warm (not hot) iron.

5. Universal Storage Tips

To maintain the shape and longevity of your jacket:

  • The Right Hanger: Always use a sturdy, broad-shouldered hanger. Thin wire hangers can distort the shoulder shape over time.

  • Avoid Plastic: Never store leather or wool in plastic bags for long periods; they need to breathe. Use a breathable cloth or satin garment bag.

  • Pocket Care: Empty your pockets when hanging your jacket to prevent the material from stretching or sagging.

  • Environment: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated space away from direct sunlight, which can fade colors and dry out hides.
